Homeopathic Treatment Of Chicken Pox
1st STAGE
Symptoms appear as a cold, temperature, runny nose, generalised aching. This is the stage before the rash appears. Treat any unpleasant symptoms with homeopathic remedies:
-
Aconite - during the first 24 hours of flu/cold/sore throat symptoms. Use at the onset of fever, but only if the child (or adult) feels unwell: there may be no need to use remedies at all at this stage.
Pulsatilla - for low-grade fever, where the child wants lots of cuddles and reassurance, or is tearful, or has a dry mouth without being thirsty.
-
Belladonna - after Aconite if temperature is high, face red, pupils dilated. The fever is burning hot and the child radiates heat.
2nd STAGE
The spots appear: small flat pink areas which fill with clear fluid. They can be uncomfortable and itchy. IT IS IMPORTANT FOR THE BODY TO BE ABLE TO PRODUCE MANY SPOTS; IN THIS WAY, TOXINS ARE CLEARED AND THE CHILD WILL RECOVER QUICKLY. Give Sulphur 30c in 3 doses over 12 hours to help bring the spots out.
-
Try to avoid scratching - trim children's fingernails.
-
Add oatmeal to bathwater at bathtime to soothe and calm the irritation. Place a handful of oats in a hankie or gauze and hang under the bath tap.
-
To relieve itching or particularly sore spots, try Hypercal® tincture, diluted or added to bathwater.
-
Avoid Calomine lotion as it is very drying and suppresses the expulsion of the virus through the blistery spots.
-
Give plenty of fluids to drink, and don't worry if the child loses appetite for a few days.
-
DO NOT GIVE ASPIRIN to bring down temperature because of potential risk of Reye's Syndrome - with vomiting, fever, drowsiness and convulsions.
-
Avoid suppressing a fever with Calpol® or Nurofen®
-
Echinacea herbal helps the immune system to cope.
-
Use Manuka honey (Active UMF10 Manuka) to treat the pox and promote healing. Use a gauze swab to gently dab the honey onto the blisters.
-
Use homeopathic remedies: Puls., Rhus tox., Ant. tart., Merc.
-
Rhus tox. Will relieve an irritable itchy rash which is worse at night and causes restlessness. Give in 6c or 30c strength 3-4 times a day to stop the itch and speed up healing (including the disappearance of eruptions).
-
Ant. tart. Give in 6c or 30c strength 3-4 times a day if there is a chesty cough accompanying the rash. The rash may be slow to develop. The cough sounds loose and rattling. The eruptions are large and bluish in colour. As the rash appears, the cough should recede, demonsrtating the healthy response of the body outwards towards the skin.
-
Mercury Use at the end of the illness if glands are swollen, the child (or adult) is sweating and feels worse for the slightest change in temperature. The spots are large and infected. Spots appear in the mouth like ulcers. Give remedy in 30c strength: three doses over 24 hours.
-
Calendula 6x given 3 times a day for 2 weeks after the Chicken Pox helps to prevent scarring.
NB: The risk of death from Chicken pox in healthy children is 0.0004%. CHICKEN POX IS BEST ACQUIRED DURING CHILDHOOD, since symptoms are very much more severe in adults. Variolinum 30c is the homeopathic nosode should you wish to prevent the disease if there is an outbreak locally: give one tablet morning and evening on the first day, and once a week for three weeks. Variolinum 30c can be used routinely throughout the spotty stage to lessen scarring or to treat any after-effects. Suggested dose is 30c once daily until the pox dries up. |
