Abbreviated vaccine composition: Td (Tetanus and low-dose Diphtheria).

Contains:

• Purified Diphtheria toxoid (4 I.U.)

• Purified Tetanus toxoid (40 I.U.)

• Aluminium hydroxide

• Sodium chloride

• Neomycin, streptomycin and polymyxin B - antibiotics

• Formaldehyde

• Polysorbate 80 - an emulsifier

• 2-phenoxyethanol (phenol) - a preservative

Not recommended by the government for routine childhood vaccination as it doesn't contain Polio.

Undesirable effects (as reported by Dept of Health and Aventis Pasteur ® ):

• Local injection site reactions - pain, redness, hardness & swelling

• Fever; lymphadenopathy

• Hypersensitivity reactions, allergies

• Pruritis, urticaria, oedema, malaise, flu-like symptoms

• Hypotension

• Myalgia; arthralgia (joint pains); headache & anaphylacsis

• Guillain-Barré syndrome has been reported after vaccination containing tetanus toxoid
