Hospital treatment is essential.
Diagnosis is by lumbar puncture in hospital.
Conventional treatment uses antibiotics.
Prompt action is vital.
Progress of the disease can be insidious, with misleadingly mild symptoms. Deterioration can be very rapid - possibly within hours - especially with meningococci. Give these remedies in 30c or 200c potency on the way to hospital. Frequent repetition is necessary if symptoms are severe. Aconite (Monk's Hood)
